Times are different nowadays.  The reasons people marry are not what they were a few decades ago, and those are reasons are different from centuries past.  Is marriage still important?  Is it really worth it?

Both of us (Rob and Janelle) have had the big fancy shmancy weddings…way back in our 20s.  Then, yes – for those of you who don’t already know – we went through divorces.  In 2002, we married one another.  But we did NOT do a big wedding again.  Nope, we got married on a pirate boat in Clearwater Beach, FL.  Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise.

Wait!!  Hold on!!  Getting married and having a big ceremony are not synonymous – though they are often believed to be so.  In regards to a beautiful ceremony, we encourage you to make a big deal out of your special day, but it doesn’t have to cost tens of thousands of dollars and doesn’t have to include mom, dad, sister Nel, cousin Louie and hundreds of friends.  Nope.  Just create a ceremony that works for the two of you.  We are huge advocates of powerful ceremonies…after all we create them   Thirteen years ago, our ceremony just happened to have a bunch of strangers and a sword fight. LOL!

But, let’s back up here.  Our conversation today via Mission Date Night podcast (you know  you can subscribe via iTunes – right?), is whether or not getting married, in the first place, is even worth it anymore.  With all the recent attention on marriage equality and the big fight to attain it and our support of it, we still pose the question – how important is getting married
